Office & House keeping Safety

March 1st, 2013

Office & House Keeping Safety.
You are welcome to March, the third month of 2013. I hope you have been able to actualise some of your goals for the year? We are goingt to consider hosekeeping as it relates to our workplaces.          House keeping is a major issue when it comes to safety in the workplace. Too often hazards are purposely overlooked due to a “that’s not my job” or “I didn’t do it – let someone else fix it” mentality.

The truth is, daily trips, slips, falls, and cuts are often outcomes from poor House Keeping. And the scarey thing is the statistic that slips and falls rank as the second leading cause of accidental deaths of 45 to 75 year olds. Not only is House Keeping important to you and your workmates, but also to your family, friends, and clients who visit your workplace.

Floor                                                                                                                                             Good housekeeping should minimize the risks of people tripping and slipping whether at work or in the home. Remove debris and excess obstacles from the general walking paths of the area. In the event of a spill, use appropriate signs to warn people about the spill and clean it up as soon as possible to avoid anyone slipping and falling

Fire                                                                                                                                                                       Cluttered spaces run the risk of catching on fire. Fire is likely to spread quickly through a cluttered house or office. Reduce clutter as much as possible. Avoid storing flammable materials, such as paper, cardboard or fabric near a heat source like a fireplace, water heater or other heating device.

Walkways                                                                                                                                                             Make sure that all walkways are cleared of obstructions. Boxes, chairs, small file cabinets and any other obstruction that people may leave in a walkway should be put in its proper spot immediately. Blocked walkways present a tripping hazard, and it is also possible that a walkway obstruction would block a fire door or become an obstacle when attempting to evacuate the building in case of an emergency.

All in all we need to ensure that good housekeeping is maintained, this is because it is a contributing factor to a safe workplace. We are all responsible in maintaining a safe workplace.
Till I come your way next time, please stay safe and work safely.
