Safe Work Habits
SAFE WORK
HABITS
In most
of the things we do while at work or even at home, we find a way to make the process go easier and faster. These
processes we develop become work habits and are used not only at work but in
our everyday activities as well. We can become so used to a process or embarking on a task that we might overlook the underlying factors that can cause injury.
Some say
it takes 21 days of continual discipling and reminding yourself to develop a
habit. Some of us have very good habits; some of us could use a little work.
Let's look at a few tasks:
(1) Do you
fasten your seatbelt everytime you enter a car? (2) Do you confirm the power is truly
disconnected after you lockout a machine? (3) Do you turn your head and check your blind
spot prior to switching lanes? (4) Do you utilize the handrail when going up or
downstairs? (5) Do you stop and look both ways
before walking out into an aisle? (6) Do you
switch off all electrical appliances at the close of work before going home? (7) Do you park
your car to answer an incoming phone call or ignore the call?
These
are just a few habits that safety conscious employees do each and every time
they do the task anywhere they find themselves. How about you?
